Footballer Jailed 4 Years for Killing Wife's Lover in Sinda District

A footballer from Sinda District has received a four-year prison sentence with hard labour for killing a man found having sex with his wife. Aaron Banda, the footballer, discovered his wife with another man in the bush and attacked the man, resulting in his death.

The incident occurred on December 16, 2023, after Banda left a football match to search for his wife, who was missing from the crowd. He found her with Canaan Banda (no relation), and in a fit of rage, hit him with a stick, causing fatal injuries.

The court considered Banda's guilty plea and remorse in handing down the sentence. Justice Mercy Makubalo noted that while the circumstances were provocative, Banda could have sought alternative solutions, but still showed leniency due to the nature of the provocation. The sentence is effective from the date of Banda's arrest.
